overview

This qualification aims to empower learners to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values required to operate confidently as individuals in South African communities and to respond to the challenging economic environment and constantly changing world of work. Ultimately, this qualification will improve the effectiveness and leadership abilities of middle managers in various occupations in South Africa, in private and public business entities as well as non-governmental organisations. For this reason, the word ‘entity’ includes a company, business unit, public institution, small business or non-profit organisation. 

the purpose of the qualifications

The purpose of the qualification is to equip managers with the skills and knowledge to manage first line managers, including team leaders, supervisors, junior managers, section heads and foremen.

target group

The target group therefore is anyone already employed in middle management but lacking the knowledge and skills, or anyone being considered for promotion to middle management.

On completion of this qualification, you will be able to:

  1. Initiate, develop, implement and evaluate operational strategies, projects and action plans so as to improve the effectiveness of the unit
  2. Monitor and measure performance and apply continuous or innovative improvement interventions in the unit
  3. Lead and manage a team of first line managers to enhance individual, team and unit effectiveness
  4. Build relationships with superiors and with stakeholders across the value chain
  5. Apply the principles of risk, financial and knowledge management and business ethics within internal and external regulatory frameworks

 Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

RPL for access to the qualification: Khulisane and approved workplaces may recognise prior learning against the relevant access requirements. Application forms are available from our offices.
RPL for access to the external integrated summative assessment: Khulisane and workplaces must confirm prior learning by issuing a statement of result or certifying a work experience record.

 Assessment

Formative assessment: Portfolio of evidence will be submitted per programme schedule after the training of each module. Assessment activities include evaluating all documentation produced during the process and questioning to test knowledge and ability to apply.  This assessment leads to the Final Integrated Summative Assessment. 
Final Integrated Summative assessment: Demonstrate competence in terms of the exit level outcomes, which in turn are a function of the associated unit standards. Summative assessment will take place after completing the training, for each module. Candidates will be assessed in an integrative manner per exit level outcome according to the qualification rules. All assessment evidence will be uploaded on the Learning Management System (LMS).

 Online contact sessions

You will attend online sessions with a facilitator for the training of each module, assessment preparation and work experience discussions.

Janelle Gravett

Education, training & development practitioner
Janelle has been involved in the skills development area in industry sectors such as hospitality, travel, mining, manufacturing, business process outsourcing and services (BPS & O) and education and skills development. She has a wealth of experience in learning and development methodologies and is an expert in the skills development legislation. ​ She has been part of the QCTO occupational qualification development team for SDF Administrator and Practitioner and part of the development team for the Contact Centre manager Occupational qualification.  Janelle is a member of the Chamber Committee for Communications and Marketing at the Services SETA and is also a Council member for the Professional Body Contact Centre Management Group (CCMG). 

Michele Keates

ETD Practitioner
Mischele started her career in learning and development in 2010 after spending many years in various management positions, across various industries. ​ With her passion for people and the desire to pass on the experiences and skills she had acquired, Mischele made the significant career shift into the field of learning and development. ​ Since qualifying as an Education Training and Development Practitioner, she has been involved in providing various learning and development services, including developing learning material and managing numerous learnerships to many diverse clients.​
