Coaching and Mentoring Training prepares individuals to guide, support, and empower others to reach their personal, professional, or organisational goals. This training focuses on developing skills to foster meaningful relationships, encourage growth, and unlock potential through structured and supportive interactions.

Coaches and mentors play distinct but complementary roles—coaches help individuals improve performance or achieve specific goals, while mentors provide guidance based on their experience and expertise.

the purpose of the qualifications

The purpose of this programme is to equip potential mentors / coaches / assessors with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to guide and support learners about their learning, assessment and recognition opportunities.

What's included

 Programme outcomes

On completion of this programme, you will be able to:

  1. Apply the roles and functions of coach and mentor within the Occupational Learning System (OLS)
  2. Identify and analyse learner needs
  3. Prepare and review an individual development plan
  4. Provide guidance to learners by means of employing coaching skills and mentoring skills in the selected situation
  5. Monitor and maintain records of learner needs, guidance provided and progress
  6. Review and evaluate the services provided.

  2. Conduct a needs analysis and develop an individual development plan
  3. Provide guidance and coaching
  4. Recording and reporting
  5. Evaluate and review for improvement

 Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

RPL against this unit standard is allowed only in the case where such applicant can proof that training was conducted.

 Assessment

Formative assessment: Assessment activities are completed throughout the programme. Assessment activities include evaluating all documentation produced during the process and questioning to test knowledge and ability to apply.  This assessment leads to the Final Integrated Summative Assessment (FISA). 
Final integrated summative assessment: Assessment activities include evaluating all guidance documentation produced during the learning process. Assessment observation evidence could be uploaded onto the Learning Management System (LMS) electronically, via video clips OR a suitable medium, as per arrangement with the assessor.

 Online contact sessions

You will attend online sessions with a facilitator for the training and assessment preparation.  6 Hours contact session time, spread over 3 days and 27 days for preparation of assessment.

Janelle Gravett

Education, training & development practitioner
Janelle has been involved in the skills development area in industry sectors such as hospitality, travel, mining, manufacturing, business process outsourcing and services (BPS & O) and education and skills development. She has a wealth of experience in learning and development methodologies and is an expert in the skills development legislation. ​ She is an Assessor, Moderator and Skills development Facilitator and works with a number of different SETAs.​  She has been part of the QCTO occupational qualification development team for SDF Administrator and Practitioner and part of the development team for the Contact Centre manager Occupational qualification. Currently Janelle is part of the CEP team for the development of the Occ Qualification for Sales and Marketing. ​

Evelyn Salisbury-Stegmann

Education, training & development practitioner
As a seasoned education, training and development practitioner, Evelyn has over 30 years of experience in the field. After matriculating, Evelyn’s zest for live and passion for adventure led her to join the South African Navy. Her military background provides her with a strong foundation in leadership, teamwork, self-discipline and structure that continues to be a strong contributor to her many successes. ​One of Evelyn’s highlights is her contribution to the chapter titled “Design, develop and evaluate outcomes-based learning programmes” in the book A Basic Guide to Human Resources Management” published by Fleet Street publishers​.  As a highlight motivated, creative and passionate induvial, with a strong character and a “work hard, play hard” attitude. Evelyn is innovative and constantly elances value with quality delivery.​
